Documenting Branchless Banking

CGAP (the Consultative Group to Assist the Poor) has a database on branchless banking available for download from its Web site.

The Branchless Banking Database draws on information from CGAP's Technology Program field work involving agents, business models, customer adoption and regulation. And it incorporates data on branchless banking, mobile penetration, and population and income from various international sources. In combination, these data sets are used to create a storyline that shows challenges and opportunities for branchless banking in 2011, according to CGAP.

Data is presented in Excel, so it should be easy to work with and create supporting graphics for individual presentations on microfinance, CGAP said.

There are nearly four times as many individual bank loans to adults in the developed world as there are in developing countries (0.82 vs. 0.22)
